Our Story
At the heart of the Wellness Pizza is a mission powered by passion, imagination, and a deep commitment to nurturing well-being in children and adolescents.
Created by Yale child psychiatrist Dr. Ayotunde Ayobello, the Wellness Pizza emerged from a simple yet powerful realization: young people need more engaging, relatable, and creative ways to explore their mental health. Traditional approaches often fall short, feeling clinical, distant, or intimidating. Dr. Ayobello envisioned something different: a therapeutic tool that invites play, encourages self-expression, and meets people where they are.
The philosophy behind the Wellness Pizza is simple but profound: wellness isn’t one-size-fits-all. Just as every person is unique, so too is their journey toward emotional health and personal growth. The Pizza serves as a customizable, interactive framework that helps young people identify and reflect on key elements of their well-being—from sleep and movement to relationships, gratitude, and creativity.
Crafted through collaboration with educators, software engineers, and artists, the Wellness Pizza officially launched in 2023 in New Haven, Connecticut—fittingly, the Pizza Capital of the United States! What began as a playful, hand-painted prototype has grown into a vibrant movement to bring wellness into classrooms, therapy offices, homes, and community spaces across the globe.
Today, the Wellness Pizza continues to grow as both a therapeutic tool and a visual language for wellness—sparking connection, creativity, and compassion wherever it goes.
